City to Celebrate Rupple Road Improvements with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— Mayor Lioneld Jordan invites all to a Rupple Road ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 30 on N. Rupple Road at the new Hamestring Creek bridge between W. Mount Comfort Road and W. Starry Night View. (Staff recommend entering Rupple Rd. from the south.)
After the ceremony, guests are invited to join staff and the construction crew to a barbecue lunch provided by Crossland Heavy Contractors, the company hired to complete this phase of the Rupple Road Improvement Project. The east side of this section of Rupple Road will open to thru traffic at approximately 1 p.m.
This phase of the project involved relocating a section of Rupple Road 600 feet east to connect with the existing signalized intersection on Mt. Comfort Road. In addition, the project includes a 182-foot bridge, a 12-foot-wide multi-use trail along the west side, and a 6-foot-wide sidewalk along the east side.
“This is a very important piece of the Rupple Road project. At last, we have fixed one of the worst intersections in town,” said Mayor Jordan. “This section will reduce congestion and streamline traffic flow, providing a safe road for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.” He continued: “I’ve worked on funding this project since I was on the City Council in 2001. The people helped design this road, and I made a commitment during a Ward 4 meeting that we would take care of this intersection. Today, I proudly fulfill that promise to the people.”
The Rupple Road Improvement Project was funded through the 2006 bond issue, and completes a portion of what is known as “the Mayor’s Box,” a system of four-lane roads enhanced with green space, multi-use trails, and pedestrian sidewalks that will create a multi-modal transportation loop around the City. Additional phases of the Mayor’s Box have been funded through the 2019 bond and will begin construction in 2020.
