City to Celebrate New Bike Route Connections
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The City of Fayetteville will celebrate on Monday, Nov. 28, the recent completion of the Stubblefield Bikeway and Veterans Affairs (VA) on-street bike route connections in central Fayetteville. A ribbon cutting will be held at the south gate of the VA campus near North Street at 2 p.m.
The VA connection was planned in partnership with the Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks in response to popular requests from citizens and businesses owners. The new route offers cyclists a much safer and faster route to get from North Street to Evelyn Hills Shopping Center by way of the scenic VA campus. This connection provides an alternative to riding on the heavily trafficked Highway 71B (College Avenue) and reduces common route distances by three-quarters of a mile. The improvements include shared road markings, wayfinding signage, a 40-foot trail segment and one traffic barrier post at a gate opening.
This new bikeway was made possible through the support of the Veterans Health Care System in partnership with the City of Fayetteville.
The Stubblefield Bikeway is a 1.2-mile route connecting neighborhoods to Mud Creek Trail and commercial centers on North College Avenue. This route includes bike lanes, shared lane markings and wayfinding signage.
