Work Begins on Final Segment of Sidewalk Construction for College Avenue Project

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The City of Fayetteville Transportation Division will begin working on the final segment of sidewalk, curb, and gutter work for the College Avenue Improvement Project on Monday July 25. This segment is along N. College Avenue from E. Davidson Street to E. Maple Street.

Construction work will require restricting northbound traffic on N. College Avenue to one lane from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and an occasional Saturday. The northbound traffic lane closure will extend from E. Lafayette Street to E. Rebecca Street. Flaggers will be utilized as needed to allow construction vehicles to enter and exit the work area. Please use extreme caution when in the work area and watch for personnel and equipment.

Improvements are being made in segments on the east side of N. College Avenue from North Street to Maple Street during 2016. The College Avenue Improvement Project includes: • Installation of a 10-foot wide sidewalk with trees and decorative lighting
• Replacement of curb and gutter, and a reduction of the number of curb cuts • Removal and burial of overhead power lines (where feasible)
A pedestrian crossing in the vicinity of E. Rebecca Street and Trenton Boulevard is being evaluated and will be included in the project if permitted by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department. Light installation and tree planting is expected to take place this fall; the project is estimated to be completed by November 2016.

More information about this major infrastructure project can be found on the City’s website in the Transportation Projects section of “Your Tax Dollars at Work.”

On the behalf of the City of Fayetteville, we would like to express our appreciation for your cooperation and understanding as we perform our work in this area. For additional information on the project, please contact the City of Fayetteville Transportation Division office at 479-575-8228. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
