THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE CELEBRATES NATIONAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark–Mayor Jordan issued a Proclamation supporting the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program through the celebration of National Community Development Week, which will officially be recognized the week of April 6-11, 2015.

Enacted into law in 1974, the CDBG program is the principal federal program providing grants to states, cities, and counties to devise neighborhood approaches that will improve the physical, economic and social conditions in communities. It is administered nationally by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

2015 marks the 41st anniversary of the CDBG program. With the economic downturn, this program is needed more than ever to help our most vulnerable citizens and improve the overall condition of our neighborhoods.

Since 1989, the City of Fayetteville CDBG Program, administered through the City’s Community Resources Division, has received $16,054,111 in CDBG funding. This funding has provided Housing Rehabilitation, Redevelopment and Transportation programming for low to moderate income residents of Fayetteville. In addition, these funds have assisted nonprofits providing services to low to moderate income residents through the Subrecipient Grant Program and Public Facility Lease Program.

The City will highlight the CDBG Program during National Community Development Week with displays at City Hall in the 1st floor lobby and outside the Mayor’s Office on the 3rd floor. Displays can also be seen at the Yvonne Richardson Community Center, Fayetteville Public Library, LifeSource International, Fayetteville Senior Activity & Wellness Center and the Fayetteville Adult and Community Education Center.
