Second Segment of College Avenue Improvement Project Begins

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The second segment of the College Avenue Improvement Project will begin Monday, April 25 and will include the area from E. Baxter Lane to E. Prospect Street on the east side of N. College Avenue.

Construction work will require restricting northbound traffic on N. College Avenue to one lane from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and an occasional Saturday. The northbound traffic lane closure will extend south from North Street to a point between E. Prospect Street and E. Rebecca Street for the week of April 25. During May, the lane closure will run from E. Baxter Lane to just south of E. Prospect Street. Flaggers will be utilized as needed to allow construction vehicles to enter and exit the work area. Please use extreme caution when in the area and watch for personnel and equipment.

Motorists should expect traffic delays and may want to use alternate routes. Drivers planning on turning east on E. North Street to connect with Mission Boulevard (Highway 45) may want to use an alternate eastbound roadway such as E. Lafayette Street, E. Maple Street or E. Rebecca Street.

Improvements will be made in segments on the east side of N. College Avenue from North Street to Maple Street during 2016. The College Avenue Improvement Project includes: • Installation of a 10-foot wide sidewalk with trees and decorative lighting
• Replacement of curb and gutter, and a reduction of the number of curb cuts • Removal and burial of overhead power lines (where feasible)
A pedestrian crossing in the vicinity of E. Rebecca Street and Trenton Boulevard is being evaluated and will be included in the project if permitted by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department. The project is estimated to be completed by November 2016.

More information about this major infrastructure project can be found on the City’s website in the Transportation Projects section of “Your Tax Dollars at Work.”
