N. Crossover Road Lane Closure: Crews Use Mulch from City’s Yard Waste Program
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The City of Fayetteville Transportation Division will be mulching trees in the median of N. Crossover Road (Highway 256) – requiring a partial closure of the left northbound lane; the right northbound lane will remain open. Detour signage will be in place to indicate where the lane closure begins. Crews will begin Monday, Jan. 11 at N. Township Street and move the work area north toward Zion Road. Work hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The project is expected to be complete by Friday, Jan. 15.
Crews will be using mulch from the City’s Yard Waste Program and laying the wood chips in a modest 2 to 4 inch layer to increase efficiency for mowing. Mulch provides valuable nutrients to plants as it breaks down, is very beneficial as a weed blocker, and increases soil moisture retention – thus decreasing the need for watering and weed removal. Visit this webpage, created by Fayetteville’s Urban Forestry staff, to learn about proper tree mulching and why “volcano mulching” is not the best practice. Mulch and compost are available for purchase from the City.
On behalf of the City of Fayetteville, we would like to express our appreciation for your cooperation and understanding as we perform our work in this area. Please use extreme caution when in the work area and watch for personnel and equipment. For additional information on the project, please contact the City of Fayetteville Transportation Division office at 479-575-8228. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
