Volunteer Group Commissions Bicycling Improvements at Lake Fayetteville
The City of Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with Ozark Off-Road Cyclists (OORC), a local mountain biking club, to make improvements at Lake Fayetteville North Shore Park. Two skills courses, consisting of earthen trail tread and a series of ridable arches and ramps, are being constructed north of the park’s nature trail area. The courses are designed to challenge and improve control skills for bicyclists. At the northern edge of the park, the existing soft surface trail is being renovated, to create a meandering, downhill route which extends east into tree cover. The trail design helps shed water, decrease erosion, and provide cycling interest.
This project is funded through a grant from the Walton Family Foundation to OORC, who commissioned Crossland Construction’s Trail Division to make the improvements at North Shore Park. OORC volunteers constructed all of the natural surface trails at Lake Fayetteville and the majority of trails on Kessler Mountain. A map of the project can be seen in the Park Planning section of the City’s website here: http://www.fayetteville-ar.gov/2000
