“Roll with Recycling” Events Slated for November
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – America Recycles Day is Sunday, Nov. 15, and the City of Fayetteville is celebrating by hosting “Roll with Recycling,” a series of events promoting the outdoors, stewardship and awareness through recycling and volunteering opportunities. Fayetteville is partnering with multiple area agencies to host two cleanups and a film screening that focuses on reducing the community’s solid waste footprint. Volunteers are needed to help remove trash along streamside trails and at Lake Sequoyah in order to improve water quality and keep our outdoors clean and healthy. Bicycling and walking to these events is encouraged. Attendees will receive a ticket to win a prize for each event they attend, and an additional ticket if they walk or ride a bike. Prizes include a full bike tuneup from Highroller Cyclery and/or two sets of bike tires from Phat Tire Bike Shop.
EVENTS:
Nov. 7, Lake Sequoyah Cleanup, 9 a.m. to noon
Lake Sequoyah Marina, 6608 E. Lake Sequoyah Drive, Fayetteville AR, 72701
Volunteers will be removing trash along the lake edge and slopes. Supplies, water and hot cocoa will be provided but participants are encouraged to wear waterproof boots and dress for the anticipated weather conditions. Volunteers are also welcome to bring a kayak or canoe for the event. The day will wrap up with food and door prizes.
Nov. 14, Fayetteville Trails Cleanup, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Marion Orton Recycling Center, 735 W. North Street, Fayetteville, AR, 72701
The trail cleanup will kick off at the Marion Orton Recycling Center where volunteers will sign in, pick up supplies and be assigned a trail segment. Volunteers will be along sections of the trail and Scull Creek, where they will pick up litter and leave bags at designated drop-off points. Cleanup supplies, water and door prizes will be provided.
Nov. 15, “The Clean Bin Project” Film Screening & Discussion of Fayetteville’s Recycling and Waste Reduction Plans, 2 p.m.
Fayetteville Public Library, 401 W. Mountain Street, Fayetteville, AR, 72701
This event is an award-winning film documentary that takes a light-hearted but meaningful look at consumerism, in which two individuals compete to reduce their consumption and waste impact. The film will be followed by a discussion led by City staff about Fayetteville’s plans for recycling and waste reduction.
“Roll with Recycling” events are being coordinated by the City of Fayetteville Recycling and Trash Division, the City of Fayetteville Sustainability and Resilience Department, and the City of Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with the Beaver Watershed Alliance, Boston Mountain Solid Waste District, Washington County Department of Environmental Affairs, Arkansas Stream Team, Keep Arkansas Beautiful and Keep Fayetteville Beautiful.
