CITY TO USE CURED-IN-PLACE PIPE METHOD FOR SEWER SYSTEM REHABILITATION
Fayetteville, Ark. – As part of the Sewer Maintenance Program, the City of Fayetteville has contracted with Insituform Technologies to install cured-in-place sanitary sewer linings in existing sewer lines that have known reoccurring issues. To keep sewer lines operational, sewer rehabilitation is an on-going process and is part of the City’s Capital Improvements Program. Utilization of cured-in-place linings is cost effective and efficient. The process takes far less time to implement because there is no excavation or replacement of utility lines.
Insituform Technologies uses the Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) trenchless pipeline rehabilitation method for rehabilitating utility lines. The company manufactures the CIPP linings out of felt, which are then coated with a continuous layer of polypropylene. The linings are inserted into the sewer pipe using pressure, and steam is used to cure the pipe. The ends are cut and services are restored along the sewer line using a robotically controlled cutting device. Then, the linings are inspected with a robotic camera to ensure correct installation.
Insituform Technologies will begin performing the work on Tuesday, September 15; repairs are expected to be completed by the end of 2015. Customers with services on lines undergoing rehabilitation will temporarily experience limited or no sewer service. Service interruptions will be for one day or less. Door hangers will be distributed 24 hours in advance to service addresses that will be affected. All Insituform workers will be in trucks with the Insituform logo, as well as wearing shirts that have their logo. Updates will be posted daily to the City of Fayetteville website on the Insituform Sewer Rehabilitation page showing locations of crews for that day.
On the behalf of the City of Fayetteville, we would like to express our appreciation for your cooperation and understanding as this work is performed. For additional information, please contact the City of Fayetteville Utilities Services office at 479-718-7670. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
