Oak Ridge Trail section to close 6 weeks for intersection construction
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A section of the Oak Ridge Trail at the intersection of Center Street and Harmon Avenue will close Monday, Sept. 12, to bicycle and pedestrian use.
The closure is necessary for the construction of intersection improvements at Center and Harmon, which is anticipated to last six weeks. Signs will be installed to notify trail users of the closure. Alternative routes to the University of Arkansas will be available along Duncan Avenue.
Intersection improvements include the installation a traffic signal, turn lanes, new sidewalks and crosswalk improvements. The intersection sees high numbers of pedestrians crossing Center, regular Razorback Transit bus traffic and high numbers of left-turn movements from Center to the Harmon Parking Garage on the university campus. Signalization will allow for a more orderly movement of traffic and a safer environment for pedestrians.
This project is funded by the 2019 Street Improvement Bond approved by Fayetteville residents. For more information on the intersection improvements, visit: https://www.fayetteville-ar.gov/3595/CenterHarmon-Intersection.
The Street Improvement Bond was one of nine bonds approved in 2019. To learn more about other projects being carried out thanks to the bond package, visit: https://www.fayetteville-ar.gov/2019bond.
