Section of Zion to be closed starting next week
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — As part of ongoing improvement construction to Zion Road between Vantage Drive and N. Crossover Road, beginning Monday, April 11, the section between N. Lantana Lane and N. Harbor Isle will be closed 24/7.
For this section, the project contractor must dig a sewer trench 20 feet deep before workers can begin excavation. Rock could be encountered in the process, making the duration of this project section unknown.
Currently, Zion is closed to through-traffic from N. Cape Dutch Ave. to N. Taliesin Lane, which includes the intersection at Zion and Old Missouri Road.
These closures are needed so that crews can make much-needed improvements to or installations for sanitary sewer lines, water mains and storm drains within the existing roadway, as well as roadway realignment and roundabout construction. The location of these utility improvements and the extent of the roadway construction is causing the roadway to be inaccessible to drivers.
When this project is complete, Zion will be widened from two-lane to three-lane between Vantage and Crossover with a roundabout at the Old Missouri intersection. A 10-foot-wide trail will be available on the north side of Zion, and a 6-foot-wide sidewalk will be available on the south side between Vantage and Lantana.
Along with improvements to the water main and sanitary sewer lines – some of which are replacing line from the 1970s – lighting is being installed along the north side of Zion and the roundabout, and landscaping and street trees are being placed on both sides.
