Centennial Park closures announced ahead of Cyclo-cross World Championships
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Beginning Monday, Jan. 24, certain areas and trails of Centennial Park at Millsap Mountain will be closed to the public to allow for final preparations for the 2022 Walmart Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Cyclo-cross World Championships.
The event will be held Friday, Jan. 28, through Sunday, Jan. 30, at Centennial Park in Fayetteville. It is only the second time in its 72-year history the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships will be held in the United States.
The park’s event venue, cyclo-cross racecourse and several Centennial Park trails are closed to public use through Monday, Jan. 31 – a time window necessary to finish building out the racecourse and event venue in support of the world championship cycling races, as well as immediately after for event cleanup.
Trails closed to keep them in the best shape for competition include the following ancillary soft-surface trails: World Cup, Learners Permit, Pop Rocks and Junk Drawer.
All existing infrastructure, including parking at both the main parking area at Centennial Park Lane and the north trailhead off Technology Way, are closed through Jan.31. The Fayetteville Traverse Trail will remain open during the duration of the event, both for community use and as a bike- or hike-in option for spectators during the event. There will be no onsite vehicle parking at Centennial Park during the closure period.

Masks will be required for everyone at the World Championships event, including spectators, expo vendors and staff. The City of Fayetteville encourages anyone experiencing symptoms of illness to stay home, avoid indoor and outdoor public gatherings, seek testing and follow health and safety guidelines for masking and isolation. Event protocol details are available via the event’s website and social media channels.
