First-ever White Elephant 5K holiday race Saturday, Dec. 11
Volunteer opportunities still available

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Fayetteville Parks and Recreation is offering a new holiday race that runners and walkers can look forward to this weekend. The inaugural White Elephant 5K will be held Saturday, Dec.11, beginning at 8 a.m. at the historic Fayetteville Downtown Square.

This road race will utilize city streets connecting iconic Fayetteville landmarks, such as the square, Dickson Street, Wilson Park, Old Main Lawn and the Fayetteville Public Library. A map of the course can be viewed here.

The run-or-walk 5K is open to participants of all ages, with a registration fee of $10 for youth and $25 for adults (16+). Registration includes an event long-sleeve shirt, finisher medal and more. Register here online until race day.

This festive 5K race is sure to be jolly — and hilly! Racers will be treated to the Lights of the Ozarks, holiday music, photo opportunities, hot cocoa and a variety of "white elephant” gifts.

Course volunteers are still needed. This road race will take place on an open course and includes several street crossings. Opportunities for lending a hand are listed on givepulse.com. Interested volunteers also can contact Parks and Recreation to get involved.

Parks and Recreation would like to recognize the sponsors of this race: Raising Cane’s, UAMS Northwest, Namida Lab, GoGo Squeez, Clif Bar and Rush Running. Special thanks also to the Fayetteville Police Department, Fayetteville Fire Department, Rise PT, Eat My Catfish and Einstein Bros Bagels.

More information is available by emailing Tiffany Hoover, assistant recreation superintendent, at thoover@fayetteville-ar.gov.
