Parks and Recreation to Host ‘White Elephant 5K’ Holiday Race

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Fayetteville runners and walkers can look forward to a fun new holiday race coming this winter. The inaugural White Elephant 5K will be held on Saturday, Dec.11, beginning at 8 a.m. at the historic Fayetteville Downtown Square.

This road race will utilize the city streets connecting iconic Fayetteville landmarks such as the Square, Old Main lawn, Wilson Park and Dickson Street.

The run-or-walk 5K is open to participants of all ages, with a registration fee of $10 for youth and $25 for adults (16+). Registration includes an event shirt, finisher medal and more. Sign up now until Dec. 10 at fayetteville-ar.gov/recreation.

This festive 5K race is sure to be jolly — and hilly! Racers will be treated to the Lights of the Ozarks, Santa Claus and carolers, plus some classic "White Elephant" surprises — where you never know what you're going to get!

Many volunteers will be needed, as this road race will take place on an open course and will include a number of street crossings, an aid station and on-course activations of many kinds. Opportunities for getting involved are listed on Givepulse.com, or interested volunteers can contact the Parks and Recreation office for more information.

A number of sponsorship opportunities also are available for the White Elephant 5K race. For more information, please email Tiffany Hoover, assistant recreation superintendent, at thoover@fayetteville-ar.gov.
