City of Fayetteville Offers Recreational Programs for All Ages

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide variety of recreational programs for all ages and skill levels. Registration is currently open or will open soon for summer, fall, and spring programs.

Youth Soccer – Fayetteville Parks and Recreation has an awesome youth soccer program! Over 1,500 participants register each season to join the fun! This recreational program emphasizes an environment that is fun for all ages and skill levels. Every child is guaranteed to play at least one half of each game, while learning the basics of soccer and good sportsmanship.

This GoodSports Recreational Program, where fun is emphasized, is for girls and boys ages 3 -17. All participants registering with the Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Soccer Program are randomly assigned to a team based on age. Volunteer coaches are screened and trained by the Parks and Recreation staff. Players can sign up for one season or for the combined Fall 2015/Spring 2016 seasons; players who sign up for combined seasons will remain on the same team. In our program, the games belong to the kids and the top priority is fun and improvement! Games are played at the Lewis Soccer Complex.

Registration deadline: July 19
Fall 2015 Season Dates: August 22 – October 24
Spring 2016 Season Dates: March – April

Adult Softball – The City of Fayetteville’s 2015 Fall Adult Softball League registration is now open. The games begin August 17 and will run through late October, so start putting a team together now because there are limited spots!

To make the program more accessible, most competition levels are available on more than one night – from the recreational to the competitive levels. Men’s and coed teams both play a double header one night per week. Follow league scores and standings online for the ultimate league experience at http://parks.fayetteville-ar.gov. Games are played at Gary Hampton and Lake Fayetteville Softball Complexes.

Season Dates: August 17 – October 22

Adult Kickball – It’s never too late to re-live your playground glory days! The City of Fayetteville’s Fall Kickball League begins August 24 and runs through October 15; registration starts soon!

Each coed team plays a double header on one night per week. Two levels of play are offered – the more recreational division is called Chill-Out League; the division of competitive players is called the Game-On League.

If you have participated in our Kickball League, then you know how much fun it is, and if you haven’t, then come join the excitement in Fayetteville! Games are played at Walker Park.

Registration Deadline: August 21
Season Dates: August 24 – October 15

Swim Lessons – Fayetteville Parks and Recreation teaches Red Cross-certified swimming lessons to children and adults of all skill levels including a Parent/Tot class for young children, high level instructional lessons for more advanced swimmers, and everything in between.

Lessons are 40 minutes in length and run in two-week increments (Tuesday - Friday) throughout the summer. Lessons are available in the morning and in the evening and are taught at the Wilson Park Pool. The cost is $40 for a two-week session.

Registration Deadline: July 28

NEW!!!

Fayetteville Race Series – Fayetteville Parks and Recreation is launching a new program! The Fayetteville Race Series is comprised of six annual events that will feature various sports such as running, cycling, swimming, and multisport activities. Each event will be different and offer something for everyone. Until now, the Parks and Recreation Department has not offered programs of the racing nature. In a place like Fayetteville, where beautiful parks and trails are in abundance, there are plenty of ways to be physically active in the community! By offering a race series, Parks and Recreation hopes to enhance the already active culture of the Northwest Arkansas area, while also reaching new audiences. The Fayetteville Race Series will begin as a grassroots effort that we hope can continue to grow year after year into a premiere race series in the state of Arkansas. Registration is currently open for the Splash and Dash, as well as the Square to Square Bike Ride, and will soon open for the Run for the Parks.

Register for all programs/events online at http://parks.fayetteville-ar.gov. You can also come by the Parks and Recreation office at 1455 S. Happy Hollow Road to drop off your registration form, or you can mail it to 113 West Mountain, Fayetteville, Arkansas 72701. For more information, please contact us at 479-444-3471.
