Construction to Begin on North Palmer Avenue Project
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— On Monday, January 4, 2021, construction will begin on a new storm sewer along North Palmer Avenue to supplement the existing drainage system between W. Sawyer Lane and W. Center Street. The work will alleviate flooding near Hotz Park and is part of a plan to improve and expand drainage systems across the city of Fayetteville. The work is expected to be completed in April, 2021.
Following a major flooding event in 2017, the City of Fayetteville worked with residents around the city to identify areas most in need of drainage improvement. This information was used to develop the Drainage Improvement Plan, which targeted more than 100 projects and categorized them according to urgency and time requirements. In April 2019, Fayetteville voters approved a drainage bond that provides up to $15.8 million to address these needs. The City is currently in phase one of the bond plan.
