FAYETTEVILLE CELEBRATES MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY WITH LITTER-GRABBER GIVEAWAY AND CITY CLEAN-UP

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — October 24, 2020 is National Make A Difference Day and several local stewardship agencies are celebrating by hosting litter cleanups to improve the ecology of Northwest Arkansas. Since the spring Earth Day litter grabber giveaway was such a success, the Fayetteville Recycling and Trash Division, along with the Parks and Recreation and Sustainability Departments, are celebrating by hosting a “Pick Up Where You Play” drive-thru litter clean-up event and giving out litter-grabbers and t-shirts, while inviting citizens to participate in a clean-up of the City’s parks, trails, rivers and lakes. We'll be giving away 50 litter grabbers and 300 t-shirts through a first-come, first-served online sign-up.

Online registration begins on October 19, and is open until 150 slots have been filled.
To register, visit www.fayetteville-ar.gov/makeadifference. The first 50 to sign up will receive one litter grabber and two Make A Difference Day t-shirts for their household; the next 100 to sign up will receive two t-shirts per household. These will be distributed through a safe drive-through giveaway on Saturday, October 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fayetteville Parks and Recreation parking lot, located at 1455 S. Happy Hollow Road.

With residents looking for safe ways to get out and be active, our outdoor recreation areas have been busy and the litter has been piling up. All participants are asked to get out and help "Pick Up Where You Play," whether it be in their neighborhood or local park, or along a roadside, trail or waterway, and post your project to social media using the hashtags #recyclesomething and #keepfayettevillebeautiful.

Any litter collected in City parks and on trails may be placed in or next to facility trash cans; if you complete a litter cleanup elsewhere you will be able to bring the bags back to the Parks and Recreation Parking Lot the day of the event. If you have questions or need assistance please call Heather Ellzey at 479-601-1930.

For further questions about the giveaway please contact Heather Ellzey hellzey@fayetteville-ar.gov or Kristina Jones kjones@fayetteville-ar.gov.
