Infrastructure Construction Begins for Centennial Park at Millsap Mountain

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Crossland Heavy Contractors will begin the first stages of construction of infrastructure improvements to Centennial Park at Millsap Mountain on Monday, May 18, 2020. The initial stage will involve clearing trees along the proposed main entry drive and installing erosion control measures. The first stage of construction is expected to take around 11 months.

In February 2018, the Fayetteville City Council accepted a generous 50/50 matching grant from the Walton Family Foundation to purchase 228 acres for Centennial Park at Millsap Mountain. After receiving notification in February 2019 that Fayetteville had been selected to host the prestigious 2022 UCI Cyclo-Cross World Championship, the City began discussing the park’s needs with NWA Trailblazers, who hired and funded CEI, engineering and professional trail design consultants, to help develop the conceptual master plan of Centennial Park at Millsap Mountain. Construction of trails began in the fall of 2020, supported by the Walton Family Foundation, and will open for public use later this summer.

In April 2020, Crossland Heavy Contractors was awarded the contract to construct basic park infrastructure and a new entry road from Old Farmington Rd. Funds to complete this work have come from multiple 2019 bond program sources including parks, trails, and transportation projects, as well as from capital improvement funds for water and sewer.
