City Seeks Public Comment on Accepting CDBG CARES Act Funding
Fayetteville, Ark. — The City of Fayetteville is providing public notice of the intent to amend the City’s 2019 Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) Action Plan. The amendment will increase the 2019 allocation amount by $436,285 to reflect supplemental funding for Community Development Block Grants provided by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, passed in March, 2020. The funding will go toward assisting low- to moderate-income Fayetteville residents affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The proposed funding categories and amounts for the City of Fayetteville CARES Act supplemental CDBG funding are:
- $200,000 toward Rental/Utility/Supply Assistance – to provide rental, utility and supply assistance to low/moderate income residents of the City of Fayetteville that have been affected by COVID-19
- $100,000 toward Unsheltered Homeless Assistance – to provide assistance to unsheltered homeless individuals in the City of Fayetteville with isolation/quarantine services/needs/supplies as a result of COVID-19.
- $136,285 toward Health Services – to provide funding for health services/needs/supplies resulting from COVID-19 to assist low/moderate income residents of the City of Fayetteville.
The City of Fayetteville is also providing public notice of the intent to amend the Citizen Participation Plan to reflect expedited procedures for amending Action Plans due to COVID-19. Community Development Block Grants are a program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development that provides funding for a wide range of community development activities directed toward neighborhood revitalization, economic development, and improved community facilities and services. Any project obtaining CDBG funding is required to meet at least one of three national objectives: Aid in the Prevention or Elimination of Slums or Blight; Benefit Low- and Moderate-Income Persons; or Meet Urgent Community Development Needs. The City of Fayetteville’s Division of Community Resources is responsible for receiving and allocating CDBG funds for Fayetteville.
