Motorist Advisory for Zion Road Right-of-Way Work
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — As part of the beginning stages of the City of Fayetteville’s Zion Road Improvements Project, Ozarks Electric Cooperative has started work to relocate overhead electrical lines on East Zion Road, between North Vantage Drive and North Crossover Road. Ozarks Electric is relocating these electrical lines to vacate the City’s right-of-way, which is needed for upcoming planned roadway improvements.
The City of Fayetteville advises motorists to drive with caution on this section of Zion Road. Please watch for personnel and equipment and consider taking an alternate route, especially during peak traffic times. Lane closures in this area are not anticipated but drivers should watch for work vehicles parked in right-of-way areas on Zion between Vantage and Crossover.
Ozarks Electric work crews will be on site beginning at 7 a.m. on weekdays only. This work is anticipated to be complete in approximately six weeks; however, inclement weather could cause delays.
The Zion Road Improvements Project is part of a 2019 transportation bond program designed to create an improved east-west connection between Highway 265 and College Avenue. The project includes roadway improvements, bicycle accommodations and sidewalks. Improvements to this corridor will offer a safer connection for all users as well as additional opportunities for residential and commercial development.
Ozarks Electric crews began trimming or removing some existing trees last week in preparation for overhead electrical line work. To help replenish the City’s tree canopy, approximately 180 new street trees will be planted along both sides of Zion between Vantage and Crossover. Trees will be planted near the end of the project, which the City anticipates reaching in summer 2021. Waiting until the project is nearing completion to plant replacement trees helps to prevent accidental damage and ensure tree health and vitality.
