REMINDER: April 25 Clean-Up Event Postponed. Curbside Recycling Remains Suspended
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The City of Fayetteville’s Recycling and Trash Collection Division reminds Fayetteville residents that the bulky-waste clean-up event previously scheduled for Saturday, April 25 at Holcomb Elementary located at 2900 N. Salem Road and the Recycling and Trash Collection facility located at 1560 S. Happy Hollow Road has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dates for future clean-up events to make up the April 18th and April 25th bulky waste clean ups will be scheduled when the risk of spreading the virus has been reduced.
In addition, for the safety of City employees, Fayetteville’s curbside recycling program continues to be suspended until further notice. All residential yard waste collection and residential/small commercial trash collection services remain unchanged at this time.
Because the curbside recycling program requires hand sorting of recyclables and there are many unknowns about how long the COVID-19 virus remains viable on surfaces, this service was suspended to limit city workers’ potential exposure to the virus and to reduce chances of community spread. However, the City has expanded drop-off services for recyclable materials during the curbside service suspension. The drop-off sites, which will be available 24 hours a day beginning Monday, March 23, include:
Self-Sort Recycling Drop-Off Sites
- Happy Hollow Recycling Drop-Off, located at 1420 S. Happy Hollow Road
- Marion Orton Recycling Drop-Off, located at 735 W. North Street (now open 24 hours per day)
- Boys and Girls Club, located at 560 N. Rupple Road (source separated containers)
- Lokomotion Family Fun Park, located at 4520 N. College Ave. (source separated containers)
- Gary Hampton Field, located at 2790 N. Salem Road (source separated containers)
- Fayetteville Athletic Club located at 2920 E. Zion Road (source separated containers)
A list of materials collected in our city’s recycling program can be found here: http://www.fayetteville-ar.gov/1986/What-Can-I-Recycle.
Follow these helpful hints when using one of the drop off sites:
- Wear a mask
- If the area is busy, wait in your car until fewer people are in the area
- Pre-sort materials at home to spend less time at the drop-offs
Sorting categories: #1 plastic bottles; #2 plastic bottles; steel cans; flattened cardboard or paperboard (cereal boxes, etc.); mixed paper; glass bottles and jars
Trailside Recycling Coming Soon
In addition to these sites, the Parks and Recreation Department, the Recycling and Trash Collection Department, and the University of Arkansas Extension Service will soon be installing trash/recycle stations along the Razorback Greenway. A total of five stations will be placed at one-mile increments along the trail with locations at: 1) Tsa La Gi Trail intersection, 2) North St. intersection, 3) Poplar St. intersection, 4) Gordon Long Park and 5) Mud Creek Trail intersection. Each of these stations will have a trash can, a recycle can, doggi-poo bags and recycled grocery bags that trail users can pick up at one station, fill with trash as they walk, and deposit at the next station. The stations also contain educational signage to help users identify recyclable items and understand the impact of pollution to the environment.
