Eastbound Lane of Rolling Hills Drive Closed for Bike Lane Work
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— The City of Fayetteville Transportation Division is working on Rolling Hills Drive to remove rubber bumper stops installed in 2019 as part of BikeNWA’s Safe Streets Pilot Project. The work requires closing the eastbound lane (south side of street) of Rolling Hills Drive from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Thursday, February 27 and ending on Saturday, February 29. Weather and temperatures could delay the project. The westbound lane work will happen later.
Flaggers will be in place if needed. Please use extreme caution when in the work area and watch for personnel and equipment. Crews will work to minimize traffic delays; however, please allow extra travel time or consider an alternate route.
The bumper stops and rebar will be removed, holes on the street from the rebar will be filled, and then the crew will install rumble strips with reflectors as an interim solution for bicycle safety. Rolling Hills Drive and Appleby Road are one of the few flat east-west connections in Fayetteville.
Concept ideas for Rolling Hills Drive include pedestrian and bicycle safety enhancements from College Avenue to Old Missouri Road as well as traffic flow improvements at critical intersections and drainage upgrades. The project is part of the 2019 bond package. It is currently in design phase with construction expected to begin in 2023. The public is invited to learn more and submit feedback via this webpage.
On the behalf of the City of Fayetteville, we would like to express our appreciation for your cooperation and understanding as we perform our work in this area. For additional information on the project, please contact the City of Fayetteville Transportation Division office at 479-575-8228. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
