Prescribed Burn in Southeast Fayetteville Today
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— The City of Fayetteville, in conjunction with the Watershed Conservation Resource Center, will be conducting a prescribed burn on a parcel of land located near the southeast corner of Highway 16 and Dead Horse Mountain Road. The prescribed burn is anticipated to begin at approximately 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 20 and will take two hours to complete.
The property was a joint land purchase between the City of Fayetteville and the Watershed Conservation Resource Center with the purpose of conservation, restoration, and enhancement to provide water quality improvements and protection of the Beaver Lake Watershed. The property will also be managed from an environmental and ecological perspective to rehabilitate and maintain native plant species. The prescribed burn is part of this adaptive management strategy.
Steep Creek Fire and Land Management, an experienced and trained burn contractor, will conduct the burn under supervision of the Watershed Conservation Resource Center and the City of Fayetteville. A containment line has been established to maintain the fire within the designated burn area. The City of Fayetteville Fire Department will be on standby status to assist, if needed. Upon completion of the prescribed burn, the burn crew will assure that all sparks and embers have been fully extinguished.
Should you have any questions concerning the prescribed burn, please contact the City of Fayetteville Utilities Director, Tim Nyander, at 479-575-8386.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation in this matter.
