Public Invited to Information Session on Phase One of Cultural Arts Corridor Project
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark — The City of Fayetteville is offering public information sessions on November 13 and 14 to give City residents an opportunity to view the latest designs for Phase One of the Cultural Arts Corridor construction project. The first session will be held on Wednesday, November 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Theatresquared, located at 477 W Spring St. in Fayetteville. The second session will take place on Thursday, November 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Walker Room at the Fayetteville Public Library. Refreshments will be available at both venues.
These are informal, come-and-go events during which City staff and designers will be available to discuss plans and answer questions regarding designs for construction of trails and other amenities at Fay Jones Woods, streetscapes along West Avenue, and improvements to the Razorback Greenway through the Cultural Arts Corridor.
The improvements planned for Fay Jones Woods—which include accessible trails, a canopy walk, overlook, picnic area, and restoration of Tanglewood Branch Creek—are being designed to meet standards set forth by the SITES Initiative, a point-based rating system that guides the development of sustainable, ecologically resilient communities. Administered by US Green Building Council (USGBC), the SITES certification process provides performance measures that assess and ensure the sustainability of the design, construction, and maintenance of the landscape.
The goal is for Fay Jones Woods to earn SITES Silver certification, with most of the points coming from restoration of native plant communities, innovative stormwater management strategies, universal accessibility, and designed spaces that support a diversity of activities and gatherings. When completed, the Fay Jones Woods project is on track to be the first SITES certified project in Arkansas, distinguishing the City of Fayetteville’s commitment to sustainable, beautiful, and functional public landscapes.
