LANDSCAPE COMPETITION WINNERS ANNOUNCED
The City of Fayetteville Urban Forestry Advisory Board (UFAB) announces winners from its third annual UFAB Sustainable Landscape Competition. Karen Rollet-Crocker of 951 N. Pembroke Drive received the residential award and Unity of Fayetteville at 4880 W. Wedington Drive received the commercial / institutional award.
Recognizing best examples of sustainable landscapes, the competition selected winners from criteria of (1) Design and Aesthetics, (2) Preservation of Natural Environment, (3) Environmental Best Management Practices, and (4) Attraction to Wildlife. A team of judges determined the winners using a rubric system with the four categories listed above. Winners receive a recognition sign to be displayed on their property.
The public and press are invited to join the Urban Forestry Advisory Board as they tour the two winning properties during their regularly-scheduled June 10 meeting. Interested persons should meet at Unity of Fayetteville, near the front entry, at 4:00 p.m. Parking will be available, but carpooling is encouraged. A caravan will then proceed to the Rollet-Crocker residence.
The mission of the Urban Forestry Advisory Board is to promote programs and policies that support, maintain, and grow our urban forest; to increase public education; and to establish recognition programs as incentives to encourage a healthy, safe, and attractive natural environment for the City of Fayetteville. This competition is established in accordance with the Board’s interest in encouraging sustainable landscapes and developing a recognition program for entities that demonstrate examples of good urban forestry practices.
