Lafayette Street Closure for Milling and Asphalt Overlay Between College and West Avenues
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The City of Fayetteville Transportation Division will be milling and placing an asphalt overlay W. Lafayette Street between College Avenue and West Avenue next week from Monday, June 24 through Friday, June 28. Lane closures will begin at 6 a.m. and then open to traffic at 4 p.m. Traffic will be restricted to one lane and flaggers will direct traffic; however, motorists should consider using an alternate route.
ALL VEHICLES MUST BE MOVED PRIOR TO 6 a.m. FOR EQUIPMENT.
Crews will begin with milling (removing top layers of asphalt) the entire roadway and then overlay new asphalt in sections. The north side of Lafayette parking spaces lane will be first, followed by the south side parking space lane. Crews will then finish out the project with asphalt overlays on the two center driving lanes. (Access to residences and businesses will be allowed as needed. Crews will work to minimize traffic delays, however please allow extra travel time.)
Oil will be sprayed on the roadway prior to the placement of asphalt overlays. If necessary, you may drive on the oil before the asphalt is placed. Please drive slowly and with care. Driving fast will throw oil on your vehicle and endanger the crew. If oil is thrown on your vehicle, it can be removed with WD-40 spray and paper towels.
The Transportation Division follows a maintenance program for existing asphalts streets within city limits, resulting in fewer complete street rebuilds and lower costs overall. Additionally, the City recycles the asphalt – old layers that have been removed are milled, sold to asphalt plants, and/or reused for new paving projects. The 2019 repaving project list can be viewed on this webpage.
On the behalf of the City of Fayetteville, we would like to express our appreciation for your cooperation and understanding as we perform our work in this area. For additional information on the project, please contact the City of Fayetteville Transportation Division office at 479-575-8228. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
