City Seeks Volunteers for Lake Sequoyah and Lake Wilson Educational Cleanup Events
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— The City of Fayetteville is celebrating an early America Recycles Day (November 15) this year by hosting two educational cleanup events with several local stewardship agencies. The cleanup events at Lake Sequoyah and Lake Wilson will provide an opportunity for volunteers to get outdoors to explore, improve wildlife habitat and drinking water quality, and learn about stewardship through hands-on recycling.
October 27, Lake Sequoyah Cleanup, 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Lake Sequoyah Marina, 6608 E Lake Sequoyah Drive, Fayetteville AR, 72701
Hosted by: City of Fayetteville, Beaver Watershed Alliance, Washington County, Boston Mountain Solid Waste District & Keep Fayetteville Beautiful.
Volunteers will remove trash around the lake and sort recyclables collected during the event. A pontoon will shuttle some volunteers to remote shores, and participants are welcome to bring a kayak or canoe. Appropriate footwear and warm clothing are strongly suggested. Supplies and water will be provided, and the day will wrap up with pizza and door prizes.
November 10, Lake Wilson Cleanup and Eco Fair, 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Lake Wilson Dam, 4483 S. Lake Wilson Road, Fayetteville AR, 72701
Hosted by: City of Fayetteville, Beaver Watershed Alliance, Pack Rat, the Ozark Society, UA Recyclebacks and Keep Fayetteville Beautiful.
This event includes a guided nature walk, led by the Ozark Society, and a lake shore cleanup. Some non-motorized boats will be provided but volunteers are encouraged to bring a canoe or kayak. Several local stewardship organizations will be at the event with information on recycling, protecting water quality, and land conservation. Supplies, water, food and door prizes will be provided.
