Meet Firefighters and Learn About Fire Prevention at the Family Fire Safety Fair
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Fire departments across the country are hosting public fire safety and prevention events this week during National Fire Prevention Week. The Fayetteville Fire Department invites the public to its Family Fire Safety Fair on Sunday, October 14 from 9 a.m. to noon in the West Avenue Parking Lot. (a.k.a. “Walton Arts Center lot”).
See and interact with many types of fire and safety equipment and plenty of activities, such as:
- fire truck rides and tours
- meeting firefighters
- smoke house tour
- squirting the firehose
- riding in the bucket of a ladder truck
Fayetteville is an Arkansas FireWise Community – firefighters will be giving away educational material about wildfires and cool swag. There will also be a limited number of free smoke detectors available.
The Hero Half Marathon, a community fundraising event held in partnership with the Fayetteville Firefighters IAFF – Local 2866, coincides with the Family Fire Safety Fair. All races end at the fair location. Several firefighters from area departments will be running the half-marathon in firefighting gear, weighing approximately 50 pounds.
The fair is FREE and there is something for everyone so bring the whole family! Find information about the Fayetteville Fire Department at www.fayetteville-ar.gov/fire.
