Greedy Goats Back at Wilson Park for a Final Fall Clearing

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Goats are coming back to Wilson Park one last time in 2018 to nibble away invasive plants on the hillside along Louise Avenue.

Goats enjoy a variety of plants, including those considered nuisance species, such as bush honeysuckle, Chinese privet, and native poison ivy. Greedy Goats of Northwest Arkansas adopted Wilson Park in 2015 to help the parks department manage overgrown areas and they return to the park three times per year to continue the effort.

The goats will be at Wilson Park beginning on Tuesday, October 9, through Saturday, October 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, unless it is raining. The community is invited to come and see the goats at work, clearing away the unwanted vegetation.

To find out more about how you can volunteer in City parks and trails and help in the City’s efforts to combat invasive plant species, please contact Kristina Jones, parksvolunteer@fayetteville-ar.gov. You learn about common invasive species and suggested native alternatives in an educational packet written by City staff and community stakeholders.
