Ozark Regional Transit and Razorback Transit Begin Fare Free Program Today
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— A fare free ridership program begins in Fayetteville today, August 20. No fees will be charged for rides and transfers on Ozark Regional Transit (ORT) and Razorback Transit within the city limits through the end of the year. Officials will evaluate ridership, routes, and more at the end of the year with hopes to expand the program into 2019 and beyond.
Since spring of 2018 City staff has been working with both ORT and Razorback Transit on route design, frequency, and service times with the goal of increasing ridership with current budgeted finance. Both transit providers had collaborated to coordinate services, reduce repetitive routes, and increase route frequency, especially during peak ridership times.
Additionally, both ORT and Razorback Transit have updated their websites and in the future hope publicly-available technology can assist riders with routes. Riders should also look for new transit stops and shelters. Visit www.ozark.org and www.parking.uark.edu for the latest route information.
“Razorback Transit and Ozark Regional Transit are two of our most important partners here in Fayetteville,” said Mayor Lioneld Jordan. “Without them, many of our residents wouldn’t be able to get to work, school, the doctor, or other important destinations. By eliminating fares and creating more efficient routes, we hope to make life a little easier for folks. We also hope to have more people look at riding buses and bikes as part of their transportation alternatives.”
The fare free ridership program is just one of many Fayetteville Mobility Plan objectives to create a multi-model, equitable, and safe transportation system that promotes and supports economic growth and sustainability.
