Mayor Seeks City Council Approval to Extend Lease of Lewis Fields

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— A resolution seeking City Council approval for Mayor Lioneld Jordan to sign a 12-month lease extension of Lewis Fields property is on the City Council meeting agenda for Tuesday, August 7.

The City of Fayetteville has leased the Lewis Fields property from the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture as part of a multi-parcel agreement since 2003.

Lewis Fields is located just east of Asbell Elementary School. Fayetteville Public Schools has expressed interest in partnering with the City to find solutions for keeping the property available for public use.

Mayor Lioneld Jordan said, “As Mayor, I always welcome new challenges. There are always solutions – solutions that can often only be made through partnerships. That is the case with the challenge of how we might work together with Fayetteville Public Schools and the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture to potentially keep Lewis Fields in the public realm. There are many details to be explored, but what I know right now is that if City Council approves this resolution, our community will have a Lewis Fields lease extension that gives us more time to come together and find the right solution.”

A “tentative agenda” meeting is held one week prior to every City Council meeting. The resolution can be found on the tentative agenda, as item A.11, here.
