Culvert Installation Requires 24-hours/Day Temporary Closure of Prairie Street
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The City of Fayetteville Transportation Division will begin demolition and replacement of the old stone culvert on Prairie Street next week. The work will require closing Prairie Street between the two legs of Gregg Avenue, 24 hours a day, from Monday, June 11 through Friday, June 29. No thru traffic will be allowed on the Prairie Street bridge section during the construction period. Detour routes will be marked. The sidewalk bridge will remain open.
The road improvement project includes removing the deteriorated stone structure and replacing it with new precast concrete box culverts. Crews will widen the affected area to 24 feet and add curb and gutter. The old structure was recently damaged during a vehicle crash and does not allow for two-way traffic, creating a traffic hazard.
The Transportation Division maintains the roadways, walkways, and stormwater systems to ensure safe and efficient travel. Information about the division and 2018 projects can be found at this webpage.
On behalf of the City of Fayetteville, we would like to express our appreciation for your cooperation and understanding as we perform our work in this area. For additional information on the project, please contact the City of Fayetteville Transportation Division office at 479-575-8228. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
