Mayor Jordan Seeks Resident Participation for City Plan 2040 at Thursday’s Gulley Park Concert
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The City of Fayetteville is currently updating its comprehensive plan, City Plan 2040, and seeks input from residents to help guide land use, housing, and infrastructure for the next 20-plus years. With the population of Washington County forecast to reach over 500,000 by 2040 (from approximately 240,000 today), Fayetteville needs to plan for this growth in a manner that considers the priorities of residents.
The City is inviting public comment through a series of public input sessions and through a survey available online. This week’s public input session will be held beginning at 5:30 p.m. just before the opening night of the Gulley Park concert series. Look for the City’s tent west of the stage and come by to weigh in on the planning process.
“Our residents, whether they are owners or renters, are already experiencing population growth in Fayetteville. We are a partnership-based government and we need our residents to participate, to help shape how neighborhoods grow within our city limits,” said Mayor Lioneld Jordan. “Now is the time to affect our future with your voice.”
Fayetteville’s comprehensive plan is a living document (can be modified with growth) that guides City officials and helps them develop long-range plans. According to Fayetteville Senior Planner Jonathan Curth, “This is a chance for people to become involved in decisions that affect everyone, especially when it comes to maintaining a balance between smart growth and the unique character of Fayetteville.” The survey data and results will help staff and City Council members with setting priorities for development, improvements, and programs for years to come. Public outreach events will occur throughout the year, with a schedule of specific locations and events forthcoming.
City staff has created a webpage and resources for information, including some goals that are highlighted from the previous City Plan 2030, and a project timeline. This can be found at www.fayetteville-ar.gov/2040. Please participate in the planning process and share your input.
