City of Fayetteville Wins ADEQ TECHe Award

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The City of Fayetteville has received ADEQ’s Arkansas Environmental Technology Award, the “TECHe Award,” for its HyDOZ Disinfection System. The HyDOZ Disinfection System is local water company BlueInGreen’s proprietary technology for ozonating water and wastewater – the first of its kind to be installed at a wastewater treatment facility. The TECHe Award honors new advances in technology for the innovative use of technology to protect and enhance the state’s environment. City staff and BlueInGreen representatives were presented the award on Tuesday, April 24, in Little Rock.

The City celebrated a full installation of the HyDOZ system last summer at the Paul R. Noland Wastewater Treatment Facility. During its pilot phase, an early finding of the project was that the system used less energy than the existing UV system. Final results from the pilot revealed that HyDOZ reduced nearly twice as many contaminants as the previous UV system and removed over half of the contaminants to below detection limits. Due to the pilot program’s success in producing positive results, the City and CH2M, now Jacobs, selected BlueInGreen to provide a full installation of its HyDOZ system. Fayetteville’s full system installation is the first of its kind globally at a wastewater treatment facility.

BlueInGreen was co-founded in 2004 by two University of Arkansas professors and VIC Technology Venture Development. The company is located in the University of Arkansas’s Research and Technology Park. BlueInGreen’s systems provides solutions to improve water quality and reduce treatment costs.
