Greedy Goats Are Spring Clearing at Wilson Park
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Everyone’s favorite four-legged volunteers will be clearing invasive plant species at Wilson Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, Wednesday, April 18 through Saturday, April 21. Greedy Goats of Northwest Arkansas adopted Wilson Park in 2015 and began clearing invasive honeysuckle, privet, and other aggressive plants on the south side of the park – helping Parks Department staff with the overall effort to eliminate invasive vegetation in Fayetteville’s park and trail areas.
A temporary electric fence will be erected to help safely contain the goats, and their owners will be onsite while the goats are present. The fence will display cautionary signage and surrounded by a secondary orange construction fence as an additional safety buffer. The community is invited to come watch the hooved volunteers chomp away on the south side of Wilson Park, near Louise Avenue.
To find out more about how you can volunteer in City parks and trails and help in the City’s efforts to combat invasive plant species, please contact Kristina Jones, parksvolunteer@fayetteville-ar.gov. You learn about common invasive species and suggested native alternatives in an educational packet written by City staff and community stakeholders.
