Asphalt Work on School Avenue
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The City of Fayetteville Transportation Division will be milling and placing an asphalt overlay on School Avenue between Spring and Mountain Streets. Rain could delay or extend the estimated work time.
Please do not park on the street during project work hours (6 a.m. – 4 p.m.) as this may interfere with the construction work.
- Monday, April 2 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mill School Avenue (between Spring and Mountain
- Wednesday, April 4 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Asphalt overlay School Avenue (between Spring and Mountain)
During project work hours, the roads will remain open, but reduced to one travel lane to ensure safety of crew and citizens. Detours will be marked to help with direction. The crew will work to minimize traffic delays; however, please allow extra travel time or consider and alternate route.
Oil will be sprayed on the roadway prior to the placement of asphalt overlays. If necessary, you may drive on the oil before the asphalt is placed. Please drive slowly and carefully. Driving fast will throw oil on your vehicle and endanger the crew. If oil is thrown on your vehicle, it can be removed with WD-40 spray and paper towels.
Small piles of debris/asphalt left at the edge of the roadway will be removed at the end of the project. (If not removed within two days, please call the office.)
The Transportation Division follows a maintenance program for existing asphalts streets within city limits, resulting in fewer complete street rebuilds and lower costs overall. Additionally, the City recycles the asphalt – old layers that have been removed are milled, sold to asphalt plants, and/or reused for new paving projects. The repaving project list can be viewed here.
