Spay or Neuter Program

Purpose

The City of Fayetteville is pleased to be able to provide low cost spay/neuter services for $25 to qualifying families, and we make sure all adoptable pets are sterilized upon adoption. Fayetteville Animal Services is one of only a few municipalities in the state of Arkansas to employ a full-time veterinarian. This program helps combat animal overpopulation in our community.

Moderate Income Families

The shelter's spay/neuter program is available for animals of low-to-moderate income families who are Fayetteville residents. To participate in the program, individuals must meet the federal income guidelines provided by HUD, which may be found here.

To be eligible for the program, persons must complete a spay/neuter application and provide the shelter with proof of income and a photo I.D.

Income Verification

Acceptable items to document proof of income are:

  • Last years W-2 statement
  • Income tax statement
  • Social Security statement
  • Disability reimbursement statement
  • Pay check stub

Bring your application, proof of income, and a copy of your driver's license or other photo identification to the City of Fayetteville Animal Shelter to apply. If you cannot make a copy of these items before you arrive, we can make a copy of your application documents for you when you arrive.

Scheduling Appointments

After the income verification process is complete, qualifying individuals will be notified and a time will be scheduled for your animal to be spayed/neutered by the shelter veterinarian. As of January 2023 we are currently scheduling appointments into April.  If you need a sooner appointment date there are other low cost spay/neuter options in our area:

Vaccinations

If you do not have proof of current vaccinations by a licensed veterinarian we will vaccinate your pet for rabies. The cost of this vaccination is included in the $25 fee.
