Installation of a traffic signal to manage traffic; connection of sidewalks on either side of the railroad tracks near the intersection.
Why is It Important?
This multi-lane 4-way stop is inefficient and difficult to traverse safely. The adjacent railroad tracks complicate the intersection design, and will increase the cost of a traffic signal significantly due to the hardware and software needed to connect the railroad and street signals. Therefore, a roundabout was being considered as an alternative.
What is the Current Status?
The design for the traffic signal is approximately 60% complete. The plans have been submitted to ArDOT for their review. Review by Arkansas & Missouri Railroad (AMRR) is in progress.
When Will it be Completed?
The design is expected to be completed and the project bid for construction in March 2021. Construction could then begin around June of 2021 and completed by the end of 2021.
How is it Funded?
Funding for the project comes from the Bond issue that voters approved in April 2019.
