School Year Programs
The YRCC offers a weekly homeschool physical education class for ages 6-16 years. This course focuses on recreation and sport activities that teach health, nutrition, sportsmanship, sports fundamentals, and movement skills. Each semester is designed to expose youth to a variety of ways to stay healthy and active aligning with the YRCC's mission to shape today's youth for tomorrow's challenges via recreational and educational opportunities.
Children and families will enjoy facilitation of an array of physical and nutritional activities, including, but not limited to, fishing, kayaking, rock climbing, archery, disc golf, ultimate frisbee, soccer, hiking, volleyball, and basketball. Activities vary by semester and age.
Participants sign up for the Tuesday and/or Thursday class by week, opting to come once or twice a week depending on the preference of the child. Both classes meet from 9:30am-11am at the Yvonne Richardson Community Center or locations throughout Fayetteville (e.g. Kessler Regional Park, Natural Grocers, Lake Fayetteville, etc.). Class location can be found on syllabus, listed with each week's activity.
Inclement Weather Policy
In the event that activities are scheduled outdoors and the weather is not cooperating (heavy rain, lightning, etc.) the YRCC will be open during regularly scheduled PE time for open gym and free play. We encourage families to come and play together on site, but we will not be providing a facilitated PE time in these cases. If you are registered, be on the look out for an email the morning of in case the weather is looking bad and we send out a cancellation notification. If you question that PE may be cancelled but have not received an email, don't hesitate to email or call.
Notifications
Notifications for PE go out via email. Please ensure that you have entered your correct email address and phone number on your child's registration for PE each week. Check to make sure you have signed up within that account for notifications and announcements. If you are not receiving notification, or are having trouble signing up, please contact Bryttni Hardin at blhardin@fayetteville-ar.gov.
