Climate Change

The global climate is shifting. The changing nature of our world is creating urgent challenges, as well as expansive opportunities, for every city, state, and nation.

In Arkansas, we must choose to purposeful and proactively respond to climate change. Arkansas has a rich tradition of agriculture, timber production, and outdoor recreation, all rooted in the soil of our beautiful State. To preserve our legacy and be stewards of our future, Arkansas needs to be a leader in the fight against climate change. Our economic security, environmental purity, and social stability rest in our ability to preserve the natural, economic, and human resources around us.

This report was fundamental to the development of Fayetteville's own climate change plan. View the report here.

Proactively responding to climate change can have positive benefits for everyone.

We can create new jobs in clean energy sectors, the circular economy, and waste reduction, helping make our economy more robust and more resilient.

We can make our businesses more energy and resource efficient, leading to increased profitability, flexibility, and accountability.

We can make our homes, our transportation options, and our food choices less carbon intensive, improving our physical health while reducing utility and fuel costs.

We can lead the world in climate change mitigation and preparedness, building respect and alliances with other nations.

By responding proactively and purposefully to global climate change, we can improve the world for future generations while preserving and protecting the ways of life that we hold dear.
