Drainage Maintenance Program

The Transportation Division conducts routine maintenance on drainage systems on and adjacent to public property. The goal of the Drainage Maintenance Program is to promote public safety and health by diverting stormwater from road surfaces, public access areas or low basins into streams, lakes or other suitable areas. Under this program, our crew works on:

  • Cleaning and reshaping drainage ditches
  • Silt and debris removal from storm drains
  • Installation and maintenance of pipes and drains
  • Bridge cleaning and maintenance
  • Other drainage related repairs and structural improvements

Maintenance Responsibilities

The maintenance listed above is restricted to the public street right-of-way and drainage easements only. Maintenance of property located outside of these areas is the responsibility of the property owner.

Proper Disposal of Yard Waste / Trash

Citizens are reminded to never dispose of leaves, grass clippings, or trash into the drainage system or in a location, such as a roadway, where stormwater could sweep debris into the system. Such actions may result in serious flooding after the next storm. For information on the proper disposal of yard waste, please refer to the Yard Waste Program website.

After-Hours Emergency

For an after-hours emergency, please call the Police Department at 479-587-3555. Transportation crew members are on-call 24 hours a day to address emergencies.
