Dispatcher Quotes

"I am on my eleventh year of dispatching for the Fayetteville Police Department, and I can not imagine working in any other line of work, much less any other department. The bond that is built with your co-workers is one that I have never experienced in the previous positions I've held outside of Law Enforcement. We are truly a family."

"Being a dispatcher is no easy task. It is challenging, fast-paced, and stressful, but also extremely rewarding. One of my favorite parts of being a dispatcher is the many roles played throughout the day. My personal favorite is Detective. I love figuring out who someone really is or discovering the missing link that brings an incident to close. The feeling of knowing you have made a difference and helped someone far outweighs the long hours, intense calls, and stressful times."

"You never know exactly what your day will hold as a Dispatcher. However, every day we help to ensure that officers and firefighters return home safely to their families, and every day we help someone through the worst day of their life. We may answer a call for help, or we may just answer a question. Throughout my 18 year career with the Fayetteville Police Department there has been one constant: every day we make a difference. At the end of each shift, I get to go home feeling like I made a real difference, and that is more rewarding than I could ever describe. "

"When I started this job I honestly had no idea what I was getting into. I have always had a desire to help people, but I thought I would fulfill that desire in the medical field as either a nurse or a doctor. Once I began as a 911 dispatcher, I soon discovered how rewarding of a career this was. After taking my first emergency 911 call I was hooked! I was helping people in a way I hadn't even considered before. I have now been working for the Fayetteville Central Dispatch Center for 9 years. I have learned and grown so much in my time here."

"The training program at Fayetteville Central Dispatch Center is, in my opinion, one of the best in the state of Arkansas. It is long and difficult, but absolutely worth all of the time and effort it takes to complete. At the end of my 6 month training period I felt ready and eager to take on this new career."

You never know what emergency communication work will bring you. I never would have thought that 15 years would pass by so fast. What a fun job! "

"In 15 years, no two days have been the same. This is more than a job; it's a career for me. I'll be brutally honest: This job isn't for everyone, but it's very fulfilling. Not every career gives you the chance to help someone in need. You will have good days and some not so good days. It takes a tough skinned person not to let some of the grueling calls get to you. However, we are all human, so that will happen from time to time. That's when you have to be strong enough to ask for and/or get help. This isn't a 9-5, Monday through Friday, weekends-off type of job, so when most people are home with their families during the holidays, we are with our work family taking calls, keeping the streets safe, and making sure our fire and police personnel make it home to their families safely.

To the world you may be only a voice on the phone, but to your caller, you are a HERO!!! Dispatchers save lives every day. We are the backbone of public safety. We lead people through life's most difficult moments. We are angels that wear headsets. Most importantly we are the lifeline between someone who needs help and those who respond to give it. Lastly, the good days OUTWEIGH the bad days in my book!!!!
