The Fayetteville Police Department established the Emergency Response Team (ERT) in 1987. The original team consisted of six officers. The team has gone through many changes since its formation. The team is currently multi-jurisdictional and has staffing for 12 Fayetteville officers and three Washington County Sheriff’s Department deputies.
Duties
The ERT is utilized in high-risk and emergency situations, including service of narcotics warrants, hostage situations, barricaded subjects, arrests involving dangerous individuals, and other situations involving hazardous or dangerous conditions. The team is periodically utilized as a security contingent during dignitary visits and special events. The members of the ERT train regularly in tactical methods and firearms proficiency.
