Fayetteville Police Careers
Employment with the Fayetteville Police Department provides an excellent opportunity for a law enforcement career with a professional and progressive department. Once employed, new recruits are issued all equipment and uniforms necessary for the job. To apply visit the Police Officer Application.
Training
Recruits are required to attend a 13-week Basic Police Training Course at the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy. The academy training includes topics such as:
- Accident investigation
- Criminal law
- Defensive tactics
- Drug enforcement
- Firearms training
- Report writing
While at the academy, recruits are paid a full salary of a first-year officer. Upon graduation from the academy, the new officers begin an 18-week Field Training Program. This program is designed to give them on-the-job training with an experienced police officer and allow them to work on various patrol shifts. After completing the Field Training Program, new officers are assigned to a patrol shift and evaluated throughout their 18-month probationary period.
Special Assignments
Officers also receive individual training opportunities to enhance job performance and develop specialized skills throughout their careers. After the probationary period, an officer has the opportunity to apply for a variety of specialized assignments, such as:
- Bike/Entertainment District
- Community Policing
- Computer Forensics
- Crisis Negotiator
- Detective
- Drug Recognition Expert
- Emergency Response Team
- Honor Guard
- K9 Handler
- Motorcycle
- Narcotics
