Special Investigations Unit

The Fayetteville Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit consists of a sergeant and six investigators. Detectives assigned to this unit specialize in the investigation of crimes committed against or by persons under the age of 18, crimes involving computers, internet crimes-against-children, domestic violence and issues involving the mentally ill.

Responsibilities

The Special Investigations Unit is responsible for the investigations of computer related crimes and the protection of children online. Detectives specialize in the recovery of forensic computer evidence, and investigators patrol internet chat rooms for persons looking to sexually solicit children while online.

The Special Investigations Unit has experience working with children, parents and other professionals who treat troubled or abused children and adolescents. Together they are able to provide parents with access to important resources for treatment.

The detectives from this unit investigate reports of child abuse and neglect.
