Hay

The property at the City's Biosolids Management Site is managed to provide nutrient uptake of phosphorous in the soil from past land application of biosolids. Phosphorous uptake is achieved through effluent discharge mitigation, which supports the growth of grass. The grass is then cut, harvested as hay, and sold to local residents and farmers. Price is primarily determined by market supply/demand and the quality of the hay.

Advertisements are placed in the local paper around mid-March each year for those interested in securing a place on the hay commitment list. In addition, an official notice is sent to previous customers detailing when hay can be reserved. For questions concerning hay (or our biosolids fertilizer sales), contact Biosolids Management Site Coordinator John Tenberge by phone at 479-587-7128.
