Lee Farmer Joins City of Fayetteville as New Recreation Superintendent

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— The City of Fayetteville’s Parks and Recreation Department welcomes Lee Farmer as the new Recreation Superintendent. Lee has more than 11 years of experience in recreation management and most recently served the City of Bentonville as recreation services manager.  In this role, he was responsible for the administration of all recreational programs, special events and recreational facilities, which served more than 500,000 participants annually. Working alongside Bentonville Parks Director David Wright, Lee was also involved in the building of the Bentonville Community Center, as well as establishing policies and procedures for the facility.

“We are proud and excited for Lee Farmer to join our Parks and Recreation team. His experience, educational knowledge and passion for our profession are great assets and will enable him to provide the best recreational programs and special events for our residents and visitors,” said Connie Edmonston, Fayetteville Parks Director.

Lee will oversee staff who are responsible for a variety of programs and events such as youth and adult softball, soccer, swimming, summer camps, volleyball, kickball, the Yvonne Richardson Community Center and numerous special events such as the Fayetteville Race Series, Dive-In Movies at Wilson Park Pool and the Gulley Park Summer Concert Series.

“The City of Fayetteville is a wonderful community that supports and appreciates the benefits of parks and recreation, and I am extremely excited to join its Parks and Recreation Department,” said Lee. “I hope to bring a passion for the value of parks and recreation that mirrors the commitment Fayetteville has made to enrich the lives of its residents.”

Lee received his bachelor’s degree in recreation administration and his master’s degree in sport and leisure service management from Pittsburg State University. Lee has been active serving on the Arkansas Recreation and Parks Association Board of Directors and is currently the president elect. He has certification from the National Recreation and Parks Association as a Certified Parks and Recreational Professional and a Certified Aquatics Facility Operator.  Please welcome Lee to the City of Fayetteville team; his first day is August 19.
