City Appoints Matthew Cabe as Building Safety Director
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Matthew Cabe was appointed as Fayetteville’s Building Safety Director this week. Cabe was recently serving as the division’s interim director and working as the Building Official/Plans Examiner. Operating within the Development Services Department, the Building Safety Division is responsible for administering residential and commercial building regulations to protect the health, safety, and welfare of building occupants. The division acts as a resource for customers in understanding and complying with requirements of federal regulations, applicable state building codes, and City ordinances. The division’s inspectors and staff work with numerous internal departments and the public at large.
Development Services Director Garner Stoll stated, “Fayetteville’s residents and business owners expect safe and accessible buildings to maintain our high quality of life and economic growth. Builders and contractors expect permitting and inspection services delivered in a fair, efficient, and predictable manner. Matthew’s education, community service, and public and private experience uniquely qualify him to lead the Building Safety Division to achieve these goals.”
Before joining the City of Fayetteville, Cabe gained experience in the private sector as Director of the Northwest Arkansas Office for Allison Architects, Inc. He served on the Fayetteville Housing Authority and Planning Commission. He is a licensed architect and holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the Fay Jones School of Architecture and is licensed as a plumbing, HVACR, and electrical inspector.
“I am pleased to accept this position at such an exciting time for the Building Safety Division,” Cabe said. “In 2018, we will undergo a thorough review of our internal processes and begin implementation of new technology that will increase efficiency and improve customer service. I look forward to the challenges ahead and the opportunity to continue serving Fayetteville.”
