Street Tree Pruning Project to Occur in Downtown Square and Entertainment Districts

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The City’s Urban Forestry Division has contracted Ark-O-Mo Tree for tree pruning services from March 1 to April 15, 2017 in the Downtown Square and Dickson Street Entertainment Districts. All pruning will be done in compliance with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) standards.

Trees located on City property and in street right-of-ways have been tagged and will be pruned for tree health and for pedestrian and vehicular clearance. Notes about the general health of the trees will be documented and logged. Street trees are a defining element in creating a sense of place for Fayetteville. Trees provide shade and cool areas during hot summer months. They also beautify streets, increase biodiversity, and assist in stormwater management. Pruning trees in the urban environment is part of continued maintenance and best management practice for urban trees. Pruning locations include:

  • N. College Avenue between Rock Street and Lafayette Street
  • N. Block Street between W. Dickson Street and W. Center Street
  • Mountain Street between N. College Avenue and Arkansas Avenue

Citizens can expect to see temporary lane closures in these areas during the pruning project. Safety is of the utmost importance to the City; please travel carefully and use caution.

The City of Fayetteville has been recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA community for 21 consecutive years. Information about the Urban Forestry Division can be found on the City’s website here.
