There are a lot of different types of plastics. Plastic tubs, plastic bags, plastic utensils, plastic curtains, etc. These items all have different numbers and different shapes. In Fayetteville, you only can only recycle plastic bottles that have a 1 or 2 on the bottom.
What's a bottle?
Very simply, it is a container that has an opening smaller than the bottom.
Why only bottles?
Because bottles are made differently than other items. If they get mixed together when they are recycled, it causes problems with the recycling process.
Why only #1 and #2?
Fayetteville sells its recyclable items to help cover the cost of collecting and sorting recyclables, thus keeping them out of the landfill. #1 or #2 plastics are the only plastic items that we can sell. The markets for #3-7 plastics are unreliable and/or are not financially feasible with the amounts we have at this time.
